A few years ago I was at a retreat listening to Thich Nhat Hanh talk. He was giving gem after gem about compassion and living a peaceful life.

My very favorite thing he said was, “Ask yourself, am I being lazy enough today?” Holy shit, that rocked my world. Whaaaaat?! It’s spiritually important to be lazy. Mind blown.

My mid-western roots tell me everyday should be as productive as possible or I *might* go to hell from guess what….laziness!

Thich Nhat Hanh was giving another idea. Have a lazy day. One where you are as lazy as possible. His preference is spending time in a hammock and he always has one lazy day a week, so does his whole retreat center staff. Yes, mine too. Sign me up.

I have realized the days I manage to be lazy enough, I feel more beautiful, radiant and peaceful.

Go be lazy and radiate your happy smile.
